Hardwood Flooring with The Home Depot

The Home Depot is not only our Hometown Hero, HD also holds a special place in my heart as I spent most Saturday mornings of my childhood perusing the aisles with my Dad. Our morning would start with a visit to HD for home maintenance supplies (which was really just an excuse for Dad to get us out of the house and give Mom a break). Each trip always ended with a stop at the iconic hot dog cart and a bag of chips. Ahh – great times! I tell this story as I reminisce on my youth but also because having spent so much time at Home Depot I know that HD folks have the answers for all your home dreams and disasters alike. Pictured below is evidence of my sister and I enjoying Home Depot Kids Camp! LOL!

We purchased our new home last year (which actually feels like centuries ago). We were looking for a townhome that didn’t require much work. I’m a low-maintenance girl, remember! (hah) While the bedrooms were carpeted and in great shape, I was disappointed as I knew I wanted the look of sleek hardwood. But, hey, I also knew those things can be easily fixed – right?

I knew Home Depot was the first place I was going to look when tackling the project of replacing the carpet. Not only do they have a copious amount of options but they also have installation services if you are not a DIY gal like myself.

Step 1:  Choose a Color/Style. Choosing a color wasn’t as difficult as I thought. I wanted the bedrooms to match the rest of the house and I knew I wanted real hardwood! Of course the aesthetic of hardwoods can’t be beat, but there are a few other reasons that I believe they are superior! Some of those include: they are low maintenance, easy to clean, better air quality, adds value to your home, the color doesn’t fade and can be refinished! CHECK/CHECK So, I brought a sample of our current hardwood from the main level and HD was amazing at helping me match up the flooring. Remember – while the flooring might not be exact – the colors and texture are so similar no one would know they are not identical. Welcome home Plano Oak Mocha by Bruce. I love that this specific hardwood has natural features, including mineral streaks, knots and small holes and minor milling imperfections. It adds character to your room while still feeling new and fresh! Plano has a 15-year limited warranty and protection from everyday wear and tear with our DuraLuster Finish. Let me tell you it shines like the top of the Chrysler Building!

Step 2 : The Home Depot Flooring Expert came out and measured every nook, cranny and lifted up the carpet to check for underlying issues that could arise in the Master Bedroom and Guest Room. We were planning to do an additional bonus room but were informed that you are not able to lay hardwoods on top of cement. Did you know that? Neither did I! Only tile or carpet

on cement. Our bonus room (AKA - Steve’s man cave) will be left alone for now. If a flooring project seems like a huge expense, it doesn’t have to be! Home Depot offers financing options for everyone's budget!

Step 3: The Home Depot Flooring Expert will send off the measurements and you will receive a quote within the next few days. Once you’re approved, your order will be placed and boom… all of the materials will be delivered to your door! Be prepared to store the wood in a temperature controlled area. If your garage is not temperature controlled you will need to bring the materials inside 48 hours in advance to adjust properly before installation.

Step 4: Installation Day! It took the installation team 1 day to install both bedrooms upstairs. I must say the install team was both experienced, professional, and tidy. I don’t know if I would have ever cleaned my room to this degree if it hadn’t been by necessity to install floors. (Don’t look in the bathroom – that’s where it all is). You can see from the photos – the net/net of the adventure is a resounding A+. We love the floors and love how the entire house flows together. While the decorating might not be complete the hardwood floors add a sense of completion to a room that might not be finished!

Home Depot not only has a soft spot in my heart because of my experience in my youth but also because, let’s face it, they know their stuff!!
